SUCH & SO

Hello, everybody!
Hoje vamos falar sobre duas palavrinhas que (ainda) geram muita confusão na hora do uso: such e so.
Bem, para início de conversa, vale lembrar que such pode ser advérbio e daí pode se confundir um pouco com o so, mas só nesses casos eles têm alguma semelhança porque aí vão desempenhar a mesma função.

ex:         I've never seen such courage. (Eu nunca vi tanta coragem.)

I've never felt such emotion. (Nunca senti tanta emoção.)

Such é usado normalmente antes de artigos indefinidos pra demonstrar surpresa ou outra emoção.

ex:      She's such a fantastic singer! (Ela é uma cantora fantástica!)
She's such a lovely woman. (Ela é uma mulher muito amável.)

Também é usado como adjetivo, por exemplo:

In such cases... (Em certos casos...)

As such...  (Como tal...)

ou
Such as...  (Tais como; por exemplo...)

Such também pode ser usado como pronome:

Use such things when... (Use essas coisas quando...)

So pode significar conclusão ou pode substituir o termo "well" (= bem, então... geralmente no início das frases):

So, what were I saying? (Então, o que eu estava dizendo?)

Pode também ser um advérbio:

I'm so happy cause today... (Estou tão feliz porque hoje...)

I've never felt so happy before. (Nunca me senti tão feliz antes.)

I'm so proud of you. (Eu estou muito orgulhoso de você) - nesse caso não cabe o such!

So many years! (Tantos anos!) - nesse caso tabém não cabe o such!

I think so... (Acho que sim; penso que sim...)

So pode significar igualdade:

Are you brazilian? (Você é brasileiro?)
So do I. (Eu também sou.)

So também pode ser conjunção:

I drove her so she came safe at home . (Eu a levei pra casa de maneira que ela chegou segura.)

So, so (Mais ou menos)
Resumindo
Such é usado antes de substantivo/nomes. So é usado antes de adverbios e adjetivos. Em português, a tradução de ambos é: tão, tanto, tanto quanto, tal, etc.

such + a/an é usado antes de um nome singular contável (a singular count noun).

such sem a/an é usado:
antes de nomes incontáveis (noncount nouns)
antes de nomes plurais (plural nouns)
So é usado:
antes de um adjetivo sozinho.
antes de um adverbio + adjetivo.
antes de um advérbio sozinho.
